Summer Fling is June 27-28 in Des Plaines

The fourth annual Des Plaines Summer Fling will be held this weekend.

Musical entertainment will be the dominant element of this year's event, which will run from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 27, and from 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 28, near the intersections of River Road and Lee Street in downtown Des Plaines. Admission is free.

There are no carnival rides at this year's event, but there will be games/activities and pony rides for kids. There will also be food, merchant booths and, for families, a Radio Disney performance 6 p.m. Friday.

One highlight of community festival is Saturday afternoon's Country Day, with local country music acts, line dancing and country radio station US 99.5's Road Show. The afternoon acts include the alt-country rock of Six Strings Crossing and country classics courtesy of Hillbilly Rockstarz.

For those with an affinity for rock, other Summer Fling music acts include '80s metal tribute band The Lounge Puppets on Friday night, and the pop/rock vibes of Rod Tuffcurls & The Bench Press and 7th heaven on Saturday evening.
