Supportive living facility proposed for Lake Zurich's north side
Lake Zurich officials are considering a proposal for a 120-unit seniors facility that would be built on the village's north side.
Des Plaines-based Pathway Senior Living this week received permission to proceed through the village approval process.
Village board trustees agreed the proposal should go before the advisory plan commission for a public hearing after a brief presentation by Pathway executive Robert Helle. Plan commission members would make a recommendation to the village board, which gets the final say on issues. Trustee Jeffrey Halen said the Pathway supportive living proposal would be a "great asset" for Lake Zurich. Trustee Jonathan Sprawka spoke favorably of another Pathway complex he's seen in Bartlett.
"I'm looking forward to this (Pathway) community moving into Lake Zurich," Sprawka said.
Pathway wants to build the three-story building on part of six acres at the northwest corner of Rand Road and Samantha Lane, north of Route 22. Helle said while renters would have to be 65 and older, most residents are in their mid-80s and beyond.
Helle said the facility would classify as affordable under federal and state regulations, meaning 25 percent of the 120 units would be rented to residents with annual incomes of $26,000 or less. He said there would be three daily meals for residents, 24-hour-a-day nurses, housekeeping and social programs.
"We're very proud of the activity programs we've put together," Helle told the Lake Zurich village board.
Plans also call for walking paths, sitting areas and landscaping on the property near Flint Creek. Helle said a bus would take residents shopping and to other excursions.
Citing a need for affordable senior housing in 2009, Vernon Hills officials approved Pathway's Victory Centre on Phillip Road. Victory Centre of Vernon Hills has 231 units.
Lake Zurich's comprehensive plan calls for diverse housing options to accommodate residents of various income levels and stages of life.
