Lawmakers want new hearings on O'Hare noise

Three members of Congress are calling on the Federal Aviation Administration to hold new public hearings and redo an environmental impact study of the O'Hare International Airport modernization project.

The lawmakers' constituents are unhappy with jet noise resulting from changing flight patterns as the airfield is reconfigured.

U.S. Reps. Mike Quigley, Tammy Duckworth and Jan Schakowsky accused the FAA of failing to focus on areas most affected by the changes during public hearings.

Their call follows a report Thursday in the Chicago Sun-Times that the FAA released incorrect data on flight paths and revised it only after public hearings were held.

The lawmakers say that "calls into question the integrity" of the environmental study.

An FAA spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
