Woman pleads guilty to stealing iPad, piggy bank from Prospect Heights teen

A Wisconsin woman has pleaded guilty to robbing a 14-year-old Prospect Heights boy who contacted her for sex, court records show.

In exchange for her guilty plea Friday, Dareka A Brooks, 23, was sentenced to five years in prison with a recommendation for the Illinois Department of Corrections impact incarceration program, known as boot camp, court records show.

The judge also ordered her to pay $674 in fines, records show.

Authorities say the boy got Brooks' name and number from a website and used his iPad to contact her. She met the boy at his home, told him to disrobe and wait for her in the bedroom, prosecutors said. She reportedly sprayed him with pepper spray and left, taking his iPad and a piggy bank with an unknown amount of money.

Boot camp consists of military-style training, substance abuse counseling, life skills training and education. Candidates must be approved by IDOC and await an opening. If Brooks is not admitted to the program or fails to complete it, she must serve at least 50 percent of her sentence before she is eligible for parole.
