Naper Nights concerts take fans on journey through rock history
Naper Settlement has finalized the lineup of bands for this summer's Naper Nights Community Concert Series that will include music from the '60s through today.
The series is presented Friday and Saturday nights, June 20-21, July 25-26 and Aug. 22-23, at the settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville.
The series will open Friday when Deacon Blues plays a tribute to Steely Dan, an iconic band of the 1970s. The band will be followed by headliners Michael McDermott and the Duke Street Kings, who will present an evening with the music of Bruce Springsteen.
On Saturday, opening act Fortunate Sons will play the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival, followed by Mike & Joe, who will play the greatest pop and rock hits from the '90s to today.
The evening of Friday, July 25, will be dedicated to the music of Pink Floyd with tribute band Think Floyd performing Floyd's breakthrough album "Dark Side of the Moon" in its entirety. There also will be other Floyd favorites featuring a custom light show with special effects.
The music is nonstop when the gates open early at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26, with Dead Yet Alive, a Naperville high school band that was a winner in the Naperville Park District's Battle of the Bands. They will be followed by local favorites OMT (One More Time), who will play music ranging from country to indie to classic rock to the hits of today.
The Ents will play a tribute to Rush and headliners ARRA transform into ARRivAl for a special night of music from Journey and friends.
The evening of Friday, Aug. 22, will be devoted entirely to the music of the Beatles when American English plays two full sets of Beatles music celebrating their U.S. arrival 50 years ago.
On Saturday, Aug. 23, opening act Tumbling Dice will play a tribute to the Rolling Stones, followed by headliners 16 Candles performing the best pop and rock of the '80s and '90s.
Back by popular demand will be the History of Rock Music Trivia Challenge, where every attendee with a mobile device can team up with friends in a social-media-based competition to test their rock music knowledge. Nightly prizes will be awarded, with a grand champion crowned at the end of the summer.
