Four accused of attacking man in Round Lake Beach

Two men and two juveniles were charged with attacking and robbing a man who had been lured to a vacant Round Lake Beach home by a woman he had met on a social media site, police said Monday.

Andrew Widmer, 18, of the 300 block of Meadowgreen Lane, and Laroy P. Bills, 20, of the 1300 block of Ardmore Drive, both of Round Lake Beach, were charged with robbery, aggravated battery and theft in connection with Friday's attack, Round Lake Beach police Cmdr. Gil Rivera said.

The juveniles, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, were charged with the same crimes, Rivera said.

The 18-year-old victim called police around 10 p.m. and asked for help. He told police he was meeting with the 16-year-old girl in Round Lake Beach after making plans to do so on a dating site, Rivera said.

When he arrived in the meeting spot on the 1600 block of Juneway, the teen lured him into the backyard of a vacant residence where he was confronted by three male attackers, police said.

The victim said his cellphone, wallet and shoes were taken. He was battered and robbed before the four fled, according to officials. He drove to a nearby restaurant to call the police.

"We were able to locate the suspects shortly after," Rivera said. "Witnesses helped with the timeline and the suspects' direction of travel."

Rivera said the two adults were arrested and taken to bond court. He said he did not know what bond was set for the men. The juveniles were turned over to Depke juvenile detention center near Vernon Hills.

Rivera warned against meeting with individuals from dating sites alone at night.
