Streets north of Allstate Arena in Rosemont to be repaved
More than $1 million worth of street paving work will begin as soon as this month in a multifamily residential area north of the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.
The resurfacing work, which will take place on Ann, Betty, Carol, Doris and Ethel courts, will be funded by property taxes collected from a new special service area that was set up by the village board last November. A parking lot for a group of apartment buildings north of the Rosemont Recreation Center on Barry Street will also be repaved, Mayor Brad Stephens said.
The village board next month is scheduled to formally approve a $1.2 million contract with Orange Crush LLC for the street rehabilitation project.
Owners of 81 apartment buildings are paying the new tax, which will also fund garbage collection and snow removal in the neighborhood. Currently, apartment building owners pay for different companies to pick up trash and plow snow. Starting next month, all garbage will be collected by Republic Services, which picks up garbage for most residences in Rosemont.
Stephens said village officials plan to send out a request for proposal soon to find a snow removal company for next winter.
The average property owner within the special service area will pay about $4,300 this year, but that number is expected to drop to $3,100 annually in years 2-10 of the taxing district, officials said.
The higher tax this year will be to pay off the capital cost of street repaving work.
