Cougars cruise past Chiefs

PEORIA - The Kane County Cougars downed the Peoria Chiefs 4-1 to complete a Midwest League series win over the Chiefs on Thursday night.

The Cougars (45-22) took the lead in the second inning when Cael Brockmeyer doubled with two outs and scored on an RBI single by Shawon Dunston Jr. Carlos Penalver tripled in the fifth inning to drive home Dunston and give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Penalver scored on Jake Hannemann's groundout. Trey Martin scored on an RBI single by Daniel Lockhart and the Cougars led 4-0.

Cougars starter Juan Paniagua pitched 6 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. James Pugliese picked up his second save.
