District 300 exploring name for administration building

How does "The Nike Building" sound for the new administration building now under construction in Community Unit District 300?

That, along with "Fred's Place," for district Chief Executive Officer Fred Heid, and "Chuck's Place," after Assistant Superintendent of Operations Chuck Bumbales, were among names officials jokingly suggested Monday night for the $3.9 million building in Algonquin.

Heid is exploring the possibility of naming the structure so it isn't simply known as "the administration building." And he wants the community's help.

"It's just to give an opportunity to see if there's something out there or someone we should recognize," said Heid, who hails from Florida. "If not, then we'll come up with a creative name for the administration building."

Per district policy, the school board can turn to the community for help.

Those ideas must:

• Be sent in writing and include an explanation for the name.

• Include the suggester's name, address and phone number.

• Include people who live within the district who are not on the school board.

• Be mailed to the superintendent's office by the appropriate deadline.

The public can name buildings after prominent local, state and national figures or family, including former district employees, students, parents or other residents. The person could be living or dead. The name could also reflect the building's location.

Heid will present a proposal of the timeline to the school board at the next meeting.

He expects the process to begin with surveys the following month.

The 32,200-square-foot administration building will house 100 staff members and have the space to accommodate at least 150 visitors. The project is expected to be finished by December.
