Rainout brings some rotation shuffling for Sox, Tigers
The White Sox have been dodging bad weather all season, but the rains caught up to them and postponed Tuesday night's game against the Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field.
No makeup date was announced, but a doubleheader is likely when Detroit returns to the Cell Aug. 29-31.
The Sox and Tigers both are making pitching changes for the rest of this series.
John Danks, Tuesday's scheduled starter, pitches against Detroit on Wednesday and Chris Sale remains Thursday's starter for the White Sox. Andre Rienzo was supposed to start Wednesday, but the struggling right-hander is being skipped.
Justin Verlander, Tuesday's scheduled starter for the Tigers, moves to Wednesday in place of Drew Smyly. Max Scherzer makes his scheduled start against Sale on Thursday night.
Jones update:
On the disabled list after having back surgery May 5, Sox relief pitcher Nate Jones is slowly making progress. He did some light throwing before Monday's 6-5 victory over the Tigers.
"I'm feeling pretty good, especially after yesterday," Jones said Tuesday. "I got to go out there and toss a little bit. That made me feel like a part of the team. I'm excited about that."
Jones is hoping to be back around the all-star break, but there is no timetable.
"We're still taking it day by day," he said. "Go out there and do the stretch and tossing, do a little activity and see how it reacts the next day and go from there.
"The goal is to stay healthy throughout. I think we got through that first stage of just being a regular person and now it's staying healthy and becoming a pitcher. I don't know how long that's going to take."
Outfield depth:
Class AAA Charlotte outfielder Jordan Danks hit a solo home run Tuesday against Columbus.
Optioned to the minor leagues on May 7 after going 4-for-41 (.098) in 21 games with the White Sox, Danks is batting .390 with 6 homers and 13 RBI in 11 June games with Charlotte.
Infielder Marcus Semien, demoted to Charlotte on June 2, has been getting a look in left field with the Knights.
