Trucker killed in Long Grove crash
A semitrailer-truck driver was killed Tuesday morning in a collision with a dump truck on Route 22 in Long Grove, police said.
The crash occurred about 8:15 a.m. on Route 22 at Krueger Road. The 2005 Mack freight semitrailer was headed east but crossed into westbound traffic and hit the 2014 Peterbilt dump truck there, Lake County sheriff's police Sgt. Sara Balmes said.
Both trucks wound up on the shoulder of the road, she said.
The driver of the semitrailer was pinned inside the cab and had to be freed by firefighters, Long Grove Fire Protection District officials said in a news release.
The semitrailer driver was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and was pronounced dead there, Balmes said.
The driver of the dump truck was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Barrington and was expected to survive, firefighters said.
The drivers' identities were not released by police or the fire department.
The crash forced authorities to shut down Route 22 between Old McHenry Road and Route 83 for about five hours.
Sheriff's police are investigating the crash.
Firefighters from Buffalo Grove, Lake Zurich and the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District assisted on the scene.
