Lime maker announces plans to expand in Gary
GARY, Ind. - A company that produces lime, high calcium limestone and dolomitic stone plans to buy 200 acres from the Majestic Star Casino in Gary so it can expand its operations in the city and add more than 30 full-time jobs.
City officials said Monday they hope Carmeuse Lime will serve as a catalyst for development in an area designated as a clean-technology industrial park. In addition to the casino property, Carmeuse is acquiring property for a facility to produce engineered fuel that will be developed jointly with an Ohio-based company.
The industrial park will be part of the developable land included in a partnership between the city, the Gary-Chicago International Airport and the company. The partnership has rights to develop real estate on and around the airport.
