Fire damages Algonquin Burger King restaurant

Algonquin fire officials are investigating the cause of a blaze Saturday night that caused an estimated $10,000 damage to a Burger King restaurant.

Firefighters from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District were called about 11:05 p.m. to the business at 224 S. Randall Road in response to a commercial fire alarm. Employees who later called emergency dispatch reported that smoke and flames were spotted in the walls of a restaurant bathroom.

The first crews on the scene at 11:09 p.m. found smoke and fire coming from the west wall of the business by the main entrance, the fire district reported. Firefighters put out the fire from both the exterior and interior of the building.

The fire was declared out at 11:42 p.m. and crews stayed on the scene until 1 a.m. investigating, according to the fire district.

The restaurant was occupied with employees closing for the night at the time of the fire, but there were no civilian or fire personnel injuries.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received assistance from Huntley, Carpentersville, Cary, Crystal Lake, and Fox River Grove fire departments.
