Elk Grove Village library will close early on concert nights

The Elk Grove Village Public Library will close early every Tuesday in July to accommodate the crowds expected at the Mid-Summer Classics Concert Series.

The library board voted this week to close the library's doors at 5 p.m. on July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22 and July 29 in advance of the scheduled 7:30 p.m. concerts at the nearby Village Green, located between the library and Charles J. Zettek Municipal Complex on Wellington Avenue.

Officials project a combined attendance of 50,000 for the five concerts, which will feature America, Survivor, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, John Michael Montgomery, and Kenny Loggins.

Library Director Lee Maternowski said the library and its parking lots have been overwhelmed by large concert crowds in years past.

There's been a "constant parade of the use of restrooms," while there's been "virtually no library business" being conducted, Maternowski said.

The library normally closes at 10 p.m. on Tuesday nights.

The previously scheduled July 1 library board meeting has been moved to July 7 at 7:30 p.m. to accommodate the first concert.
