Elmhurst Physician to Care for U.S. World Cup Soccer Team

Sports medicine physician Dr. Nathaniel Jones of Loyola University Medical Center will serve as one of the team physicians for the U. S. Men's National Team during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Jones' primary role will be providing medical care to more than 150 friends, family members and staff members associated with the men's soccer team. He also will assist in caring for the players, as needed.

Jones will fly with the team to Brazil on June 13, and will stay in Brazil for as long as the team remains in the tournament.

Jones grew up in Recife, Brazil, where the U.S. will play Germany on June 26. His mother is Brazilian, and he is fluent in Portuguese. He now lives in Elmhurst.

In 2012, Jones also was a team physician for the U.S. men's national under-20 soccer team.

Loyola sports medicine physicians have served as team physicians for multiple teams in multiple sports, from high school to professional levels.

Jones is an assistant professor in the departments of Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
