Waukegan fishing derby:

The Waukegan Park District's annual fishing derby will be held Saturday, June 7, at the pond in Bevier Park, 2255 Yorkhouse Road. This event is always scheduled on a "free fishing day" declared by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, a day when state fishing licenses are not required. Before the derby, Bevier is stocked with several hundred pounds of catfish. Great prizes are awarded according to age categories for the largest fish caught. Preregistration is encouraged, and day-of-event registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The cost varies based on age.
