French Market opens in Prospect Hts.

Prospect Heights' new French Market opened for the first time Wednesday at the city's Metra station, offering traditional farmers market fare like fresh vegetables and fruits along with more eclectic items like bread, plants, French linens and candles.

The market will return from 2 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday throughout the summer as a result of a deal struck earlier this year between its operator, Bensidoun USA, and the Prospect Heights City Council.

The market will operate its first year without Bensidoun's signature red, white and blue canopies, because the company cannot obtain new ones soon enough, Prospect Heights Mayor Nick Helmer previously said.

"It's an amenity for the community, a chance to come together with neighbors," he added.

Parking is free at the market, located at 55 S. Wolf Road.
