Gilberts man caught with 15 pounds of coke, 23 pounds of pot

A 40-year-old Gilberts man was being held on $900,000 bail after authorities seized nearly 15 pounds of cocaine and 23 pounds of marijuana from his home, according to Kane County court records.

Martin Reyes-Hernandez, of the 100 block of John M. Boor Drive, was arrested Wednesday and charged with four felonies, the two most serious being possession of more than 900 grams of cocaine with intent to deliver and possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana with intent to deliver, records show.

Reyes-Hernandez is being held at the Kane County jail and he must post $90,000 to be released while the case is pending.

If Reyes-Hernandez tries to post bond, he must show the money comes from legitimate sources, according to court papers filed by prosecutors that indicated Hernandez was caught with 6,763 grams of cocaine and 10,440 grams of marijuana when authorities searched his home.

"In addition, police recovered approximately $7,900 (U.S. currency), scales, a kilo press, and narcotics packaging material," wrote Assistant State's Attorney Bridget Sabbia. "The state is not aware of any legitimate source of income consistent with the defendant's ability to post the required bond in this case."

Reyes-Hernandez is due in court June 13.

Representatives from the Aurora Police Department, which court records indicated is the lead investigative agency in the case, could not immediately be reached for comment Friday.
