Palatine Township honors military families

Palatine Township held its inaugural Blue Star Banner Presentation in June of 2011, and since that time more than 30 military families have come forward to receive this honor.

This program acknowledges the community's military families by honoring its active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, while supporting the family members here at home.

Three times a year, the township board, along with the respective mayor and state legislators able to attend, host a special ceremony and present a Blue Star Banner and special Township Resolution to the recipient families. The family then hangs their banner in the window of their homes.

It is the hope and intent that these banners will help to identify and support the neighbor-military families whose sacrifices too often go unnoticed.

If you are a family member of someone currently serving and you reside in Palatine Township, the board would love the opportunity to recognize your family at its next Banner Presentation ceremony.

The next presentation will take place at the June 23 board meeting. Applications need to be received by Saturday, May 31.
