Mel Thillens, a Republican candidate for state representative in the 55th District, has opened his campaign office in downtown Des Plaines.

Thillens is sharing office space at 680 Lee St. with Charlene Foss-Eggemann, who was recently elected committeeman of the Maine Township Republican Organization.

Thillens, the Park Ridge Park District board president, is facing incumbent Democrat State Rep. Marty Moylan, of Des Plaines, in the November general election.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting event for the office is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3.
