Chicago man pleads guilty to Palatine phone store robbery
A 21-year-old Chicago man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the May 2013 robbery of a Palatine Verizon Wireless store.
Lavell Fort pleaded guilty Wednesday to the amended charge of armed robbery without a firearm before Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie, who also ordered him to pay $689 in fines.
Prosecutors say Fort entered the store with another man on May 18, 2013, and ordered three employees and a family of four to lie face down on the floor. Fort and the other man ordered the manager to put cellphones and computer tablets totaling more than $50,000 into a bag, prosecutors said.
The men also took cash from the register, prosecutors said.
