2 pets lost in Elgin house fire
Two pets perished in a house fire in Elgin Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters and police responded to the 0-100 block of Jerusha Avenue where flames engulfed a small, one-story house on the quiet street just south of Judson University's campus.
Elgin Fire Department Battalion Chief Bryn McMahan said no one was injured, and the house was left uninhabitable.
Five fire engines, two ambulances and two fire trucks were at the scene. The fire moved swiftly through the house and the roof eventually had to be vented to help extinguish the flames, McMahan said.
