Son of former mayor in 'Death Race' event

The son of former Elk Grove Village Mayor Dennis Gallitano will participate next month in a grueling test of strength and mental endurance as part of the 40-mile Death Race. Joseph Gallitano, also of Elk Grove Village, is competing in the race, scheduled to begin June 27 in Vermont.

The event is an obstacle and challenge-driven race that challenges competitors to do everything from chopping wood for two hours, to memorizing the names of the first 10 presidents or a Bible verse, then hiking to the top of a mountain and reciting them back in order. The length of the race can range from 48 to 72 hours.
