'Heart and soul' of Spencer Loomis school passes away

A veteran Spencer Loomis Elementary School employee is being mourned as the "heart and soul" of the Hawthorn Woods campus.

Susan Lindner, who worked as a secretary in Lake Zurich School District 95 for more than 20 years, died Thursday.

Lindner was renowned for her uncanny memory. Not only could she recall the names of current students and their parents, but she remembered students from years past.

"I remember them all," Lindner told the Daily Herald in 2010. "It's kind of crazy."

School officials told students' parents about Lindner's death in an email Thursday morning.

"Susan represented the heart and soul of Spencer Loomis and was beloved by many students, parents and colleagues," Principal Sandy Kennedy said in the email. "Her sudden passing leaves us with an emptiness that will be hard to fill."

Lindler worked at May Whitney School in Lake Zurich before moving to Loomis.

In an email to the Daily Herald, District 95 spokeswoman Jean Malek said Lindler "was beloved by everyone across the district."

"We are devastated by this loss," Malek said.

Malek said Friday she still did not have any information about services.
