Trees removed from Great Western Trail
Joggers and cyclist who were out enjoying the brief lapse in rainy weather this week had to make a slight detour Wednesday as a small section of the Great Western Trail in St. Charles had some trees removed.
The area affected was from Dean Street to Peck Road, a short walk west of the Horlock Prairie parking lot.
Arborist Chris Ranney of Skyline Tree Service in St. Charles said some of the removal was difficult because of the proximity of the trees to the neighboring power lines.
Ranney thought the project, which was slated to span a few days, would be finished ahead of time.
The trees were primarily cherry trees, but there was a box elder tree that was removed. Six trees total were marked for removal.
