Naperville Center to Temporarily Close for Renovations

The College of DuPage Naperville Center, located at 1223 Rickert Drive in Naperville, will undergo a major renovation and will be closed for the summer and fall terms.

To accommodate classes originally scheduled at the Naperville Center for the fall semester, the College has rented temporary classroom and administrative space at the Fry Properties Office Building, located at 2244 West 95th Street in Naperville. Summer classes have been rescheduled on College of DuPage's main campus in Glen Ellen.

Renovations to the 20,460 square-foot facility include updating the mechanicals to improve energy efficiency, upgrading the exterior so it mirrors the look of buildings on the main campus in Glen Ellyn, replacing the east and west exterior glazing with energy-efficient glazing, repairing and resealing the parking lot, and updating classrooms, lounges and the conference room. The front entrance will be redesigned for a more defined, welcoming entryway as well as for ADA compliance.

In addition, the Cosmetology program space, which is being relocated to the Addison Center, will be converted to offices, while the current main offices will become classroom space. As a result, the building will include five general classrooms, two computer labs, and five additional classrooms dedicated to English, speech and science, which will allow the College to expand the number of classes currently offered, said Bruce Schmiedl, Director of Facilities at College of DuPage.

"We are taking a dated and not-so-energetic interior and making it lively and more welcoming," he said. "The upper level will become more functional, while the improved classroom space will provide a more conducive environment for learning."

The center is expected to close the week of May 19 after the end of the spring semester, and the $6 million project is set to begin by the end of the month. In June, College of DuPage will begin offering at the temporary location the same range of services found at the Naperville Center, including counseling appointments, COMPASS placement testing and testing for COD Online courses, and admissions and registration assistance. All Naperville Adult Fast Track courses will be offered on the main campus through the fall semester.
