NIU holds active-shooter training
Police at Northern Illinois University are training this month for active-shooter situations.
The school was the site of a deadly campus shooting in 2008 when a gunman killed five people and injured more than a dozen others before killing himself.
Officers at the DeKalb campus started training on Monday. The drills will culminate in a full-scale simulation on May 30. That effort will include police from the cities of DeKalb and Sycamore, DeKalb County sheriff's police and Illinois State Police.
The Daily Chronicle reported it will be the first training simulation of its size in the county.
