Fremd Wind Symphony snags superior ratings in April

The Fremd Wind Symphony was busy performing their way to success this April.

The band was recognized for their performances at the Chicagoland Invitational Concert Band Festival hosted by Hersey High School, and the Illinois State University State of Illinois Invitational Concert Band Contest held at the ISU Center for the Performing Arts.

At the Chicagoland Invitational Festival, the band earned an overall "Division 1/Superior" rating in the top-tier category. This is a significant accomplishment for the group because the festival is adjudicated on the national level by college band directors. The band also participated in a 45-minute educational clinic with Dr. Mallory Thompson, director of bands at Northwestern University.

At the ISU Band Festival, the Wind Symphony was awarded three straight Division 1/Superior ratings by the collegiate adjudicators, as well as earning second place in the 6A school division. The band also had the fourth highest point total out of 25 participating bands.

The Wind Symphony performed the following compositions at the two festivals: Symphonic Suite by Clifton Williams, "Be Thou My Vision" by Travis Cross, "Akatonbo" by Joseph Spaniola, and Symphony No. 2 (Mvmt. 3-Apollo Unleashed) by Frank Ticheli.

The Fremd Wind Symphony is under the direction of Matthew Moore, director of bands, and Jeremy Figlewicz, assistant band director.
