The best of French dining comes to Hoffman Estates

Northwest suburban Francophiles and fans of fine cuisine didn't have to travel to Paris - or even Chicago - to enjoy the best of French dining this month thanks to the Hoffman Estates Sister Cities Commission's 17th annual French dining evening.

The event, entitled "Soiree Culinaire - Discovering French Delicacies," took place April 24 at the Stonegate Conference & Banquet Centre, in Hoffman Estates.

Diners enjoyed a three-course meal prepared by Chef Patrick Guat and his students from the world-renowned L'Amandier School. The school is located in Hoffman Estates' Sister City of Angouleme, France.

In addition to the three-course meal, French wine and Pineau Charentes - a regional liqueur of Angouleme - were served and a silent auction was held.

Angouleme, a city of about 50,000 residents, is about 200 miles southwest of Paris, and a little more than 60 miles from the Atlantic Coast, in the Charentes department of France.
