Visiting Angels of South Elgin to hold 1-day shopping event

Visiting Angels of South Elgin will host a one-day shopping event to help raise funds for Senior Services Associates Inc. Senior Services is a nonprofit agency dedicated to sustaining and improving the quality of life for individuals 60 years of age and older. They reach out to families and their caregivers by providing access to the social services they need.

"We are dedicated to preserving and promoting independence for our seniors," says Leslie Edstrom, fund development director for Senior Services. "That's an integral part of our mission, and we continually strive to provide for our seniors to so they can live their lives with integrity."

Visiting Angels shares this mission and values the work of Senior Services.

"We decided this might be an exciting way to raise funds to help them as they help our seniors," says Arlene Petersen, owner of the South Elgin Visiting Angels franchise.

"We've never done anything like this before, but with our community partners, not only do we hope to raise funds for Senior Services, but we hope to create awareness of all they do in the community. Plus this event is right before Mother's Day, so we are making it simple to shop for that special mom in your life."

The special shopping day has been set for Thursday, May 8. Three Geneva shops are participating in the fundraiser, with specific shopping times at each one: Grahams Fine Chocolates, 302 S. Third St., from 4 to 6 p.m.; Cocoon, 212 S. Third. St. from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Galena Wine Cellars, 477 S. Third St., from noon to 6 p.m.

Shoppers will need to present a special postcard when they shop so that the stores will know their purchase is for Senior Services. Visiting Angels provides home care and life care navigation services such as registered nurse medication review and management, bathing, grooming, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands, or companionship. Respite for families who provide loved ones with care is also available.
