Itasca sponsoring Green Day recycling event

Itasca, in cooperation with several supporting agencies, is sponsoring a Green Day recycling event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3, at the commuter parking lot on Irving Park Road across the street from Itasca Bank and Trust.

Crews will be accepting electronics, paper products, automobile batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, scrap metal, fire extinguishers, clothing, fabric, bicycles, eye glasses, hearing aids, American flags, ink jet cartridges, rulers, Crayons, keys, yarn, safety pins and buttons. New to the collection this year, crews will be accepting cooking oils, fats and grease.

Amerishred will be on-site to provide document destruction. Fellowes Corporation has donated a number of paper shredders that will be awarded to random visitors throughout the event. All visitors will receive free handouts from ComEd and the village showing how to save energy and money, and find better ways to dispose of unwanted materials.

Sponsors include Fellowes, Creative Recycling Systems, USAgain, Working Bikes, SCARCE, Itasca public works and police departments and the Lions Club and VFW.
