Chicago OKs alcohol sales at 8 a.m. on Sundays

Chicagoans will be able to purchase alcoholic beverages three hours earlier on Sunday.

The Chicago City Council on Wednesday approved a measure that moves the current 11 a.m. time to buy beer, wine and hard liquor to 8 a.m. The ordinance applies to large grocery stores that are more than 10,000-square-feet and use no more than 25 percent of shelf space for alcohol sales.

Alderman Patrick O'Connor introduced the idea in January.
