Taste flower petals and bugs, if you dare, at Elgin museum

Do insects sound like good munchies for you? Looking into the wild grub for to spice up your dinner party? Come to the Elgin Public Museum's final Science Night before summer break: "Wild Edibles!"

They will be looking into nature's bounty as spring finally arrives. Try beautiful and tasty flower petals, grind your own cricket flour, and snack on crunchy crawlies. Most importantly, learn about what is benign and what to avoid. Stations will be set up around the first floor of the museum for people to participate in delicious activities.

For this month only, Wild Edibles Science Night will be held on the first Friday of the month on May 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elgin Public Museum, in Lords Park at 225 Grand Blvd. in Elgin. No registration is required for this drop-in program. The fee is $2 per person; Elgin Public Museum members are free.

The Elgin Public Museum of Natural History and Anthropology is the only museum of natural history in the Fox River Valley. Built in 1907, the museum is home to fossils, endangered animals exhibit, Ice Age mammals, Woodland Indian artifacts and more. The museum has been hosting monthly Science Nights for the last three years, featuring a different topic each month.
