Lincolnshire school celebrates Arbor Day with tree planting, dedication

To honor Arbor Day, fifth grade students and teachers at Daniel Wright Junior High School in Lincolnshire hosted a tree planting and dedication Friday.

School and village officials attended the half-hour ceremony that was held to recognize the importance of trees and nature.

A history of Arbor Day was presented and students read poems during the program outside the school on Riverwoods Road.

The tree that was planted was a red maple that was donated by the village of Lincolnshire.

"We're really happy that we could have this time to focus on the environment and make this a year-round thing," fifth grade teacher Jaime Gagamov said.

Arbor Day, when people are encouraged to plant and care for trees, is celebrated on the last Friday in April. It is a state holiday in Nebraska.
