Alhambra Guitar Trio Performs April 27 at Trinity International University

The Trinity International University Department of Music is delighted to present a guitar recital by the acclaimed Alhambra Trio on Sunday afternoon, April 27, at 2:00 p.m. in the ATO Chapel on the Deerfield campus, located at 2065 Half Day Road. Tickets are $8 for General Admission, $5 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the door or by calling 847-317-8021.

The Alhambra Trio, featuring Norman Ruiz, Jeff Warren, and Ivan Resndiz, will perform guitar trios, duets, and solos by Albeniz, Granados, Hindemith, Debussy, and more.

Norman Ruiz, a master teacher and a virtuoso of the classical guitar, is an adjunct faculty member at Trinity. He has performed in the Chicago area for more than 30 years, soloing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, on WFMT and NPR radio, with the Chicago Classical Guitar Society's concert series, as well as numerous performances as a soloist and with chamber groups. Mr. Ruiz has had instruction with some of the world's finest guitarists, and his own students have won success in many competitions both in the United States and abroad.

Jeff Warren studied guitar performance and advanced theory with Norman Ruiz at Trinity, and later earned his Masters of Music degree in guitar performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Since winning first prize in the Society of American Musicians guitar competition, Jeff has given numerous concerts throughout the Midwest and internationally. He recently recorded Dave Brubeck's Points on Jazz in a premier recording for jazz quartet. Jeff has been teaching classical and jazz guitar for over 18 years, including guitar pedagogy and history, as well as directing guitar ensembles.

In 2003, Warren and Ruiz teamed together to form the guitar duet, Duos Dialogues. They have performed at universities, guitar festivals, libraries and churches, and have given concerts in Mexico and Italy. Each brings a unique quality to the music they perform, Warren a sensitive ear and innate understanding of the phrase, Ruiz with his old-world romanticism. In the duo format, they play off each other, bringing surprising insight into the music they perform.

For the concert at Trinity, Warren and Ruiz will be joined by one of Ruiz' current students, Ivan Resndiz. Originally from Mexico City, Resndiz began his study of classical guitar at the age of sixteen and has since performed in Mexico, the United States and Spain, in a variety of venues. These three performers will bring their musical talents together as the Alhambra Trio. The community is invited to Trinity to enjoy a wonderful Sunday afternoon of classical guitar music!
