Suburban bands perform at Hersey invitational

A marathon festival showed off the musical chops of suburban band students Saturday in Arlington Heights.

About 40 middle and high school bands from across the suburbs snagged a coveted spot in the 14th Annual Chicagoland Invitational Concert Band Festival.

And on Saturday, they spent roughly 10 hours performing for an audience and a panel of judges at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights.

This year's showcase also featured a piece by the Elmhurst College Wind Ensemble.
