Council to host Second Saturday Poetry Workshop April 12
The Northwest Cultural Council announces a Second Saturday Poetry Workshop to be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 12, led by Susanna Lang. Saturday's topic will be "Joining the Conversation: Writing in Response to Others' Poems."
One of the joys of writing is that you get to join the big conversation that is literature. You can have an intimate talk with Sappho (who's been dead for thousands of years) or with a Nobel Prize winner (who doesn't know you exist). It's a great way to jolt yourself out of a writing block, too.
In this workshop, the group will look at some favorite poems - bring yours! - and talk about how to write back to another poet while still creating original poems that speak to readers.
Susanna Lang's newest collection of poems, "Tracing the Lines," was published in 2013 by the Brick Road Poetry Press, joining previous collections "Even Now" and "Two by Two." She has published poems, essays, and translations from the French, in such journals as Little Star, New Letters, The Sow's Ear Poetry Review, The Green Mountains Review, The Baltimore Review, Kalliope, Southern Poetry Review, World Literature Today, Chicago Review, New Directions, and Jubilat. Book publications include translations of "Words in Stone" and "The Origin of Language," both by Yves Bonnefoy. She teaches in the Chicago Public Schools.
Participants are encouraged to bring 15 copies of their own work to share with the group. Workshops take place at the Palatine Public Library, 700 N. North Court, Palatine, on the second Saturday of each month. All poets and writers are invited to attend the workshop. The cost is $15.
