Eliminate legislature veto-proof majority

On March 20 political editor Mike Riopell had two informative articles in the Daily Herald. In the last paragraph of the one on expensive campaigns, I found a point that needs greater emphasis.

Mr. Riopell stated "in the long march toward November, Rauner could use his fortune to help candidates for statehouse seats as his party fights for increased relevancy at an Illinois Capital controlled by Democrats."

The Democrats currently have a veto-proof majority in the General Assembly. If this is maintained in November, as seems likely, the victor in the race for governor is somewhat irrelevant. The legislators will mostly do what their two leaders tell them to do.

Irrespective of whom I choose in the race for governor, I cannot vote for any Democratic candidate for the state legislature. To do so would be a de facto vote for Speaker Mike Madigan. His control in Springfield must be diminished in my view.

One way to accomplish this is the elimination of his veto proof majority. As we approach the polls in November I encourage all voters to consider this issue as they make their choices for seats in the state legislature.
