Wheeling trustee shaves head for charity
It can be a sacrifice for anyone with treasured locks to go under the razor for a head shave at a St. Baldrick's event - the annual fundraiser to fight childhood cancer.
But a woman working in the corporate world might have to think a little longer about the gesture.
Mary Krueger, freshman trustee for the village of Wheeling, stepped up with the firefighters union from Wheeling and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods March 22 and became the group's second-leading fundraiser.
"We had a blast," said Krueger, an executive assistant at Underwriters Laboratories in Northbrook. "People have mentioned (I look like) Sinead O'Connor."
The event at the H.O.M.E. bar in Prospect Heights raised $40,581 according to the organization's website, Stbaldricks.org. Krueger was the group's second-highest draw at $2,259.
And yes, donations are still accepted.
