Streamwood man charged with robbing Hanover Park Walgreens

A 56-year-old Streamwood man has been charged with robbing a Hanover Park Walgreens of prescription drugs Monday night.

Jeffrey Fritsch, of the 900 block of Elizabeth Drive, faces felony charges of aggravated robbery and possession of a controlled substance. He also was charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, police said.

Fritsch approached a pharmacist inside the store, jumped the counter and demanded the employee turn over medications, Deputy Police Chief Tom Cortese said. Fritsch told the pharmacist he had a gun, Cortese said.

The victim filled 17 prescription bottles with drugs, he said.

Police received a report about 10:25 p.m. of a man with a gun wearing a hooded sweatshirt inside the store, 7350 Barrington Road.

Police responded in less than a minute and spotted the suspect leaving the store, Cortese said.

After a brief struggle with officers, police said, Fritsch was arrested.

Police did not recover a firearm on Fritsch, but found a steak knife that was not used in the robbery, Cortese said.

On Tuesday, Fritsch was released from Cook County jail after posting 10 percent of a $10,000 bail. He is due back in court April 24.
