Treasurer candidate quits race

A day after winning the Democratic Party nomination for Lake County treasurer, Cynthia Plouche has quit the race.

Lake County Clerk Willard Helander announced Plouche's move on Facebook.

Plouche, a Highland Park resident who serves as Moraine Township assessor, couldn't be reached for comment.

A suburban Democratic Party leader confirmed Plouche's decision to withdraw, citing professional conflicts.

The Democrats can appoint someone to replace Plouche on the November general election ballot.

Plouche ran unopposed in Tuesday's Democratic primary.

Republican David Stolman won his party's nomination for the post on Tuesday, defeating Jeri Atleson.

Republican incumbent Robert Skidmore isn't seeking re-election.
