District 95 students hit high notes at music contest

Lake Zurich Middle School North and Middle School South band, orchestra, and chorus students, along with Isaac Fox and Sarah Adams Elementary orchestra students, attended the Illinois Grade School Music Association's District 8 Solo & Ensemble Contest Saturday, Feb. 22.

With more than 1,000 events scheduled, hundreds of students from more than 16 schools performed solos, duets, trios, and ensembles for 21 guest adjudicators during the competition at Daniel Wright Junior High School in Lincolnshire.

Performances were held in classrooms with a judge, who rated students on intonation, rhythm, stage presentation, and musicianship.

Lake Zurich Middle School South, Isaac Fox Elementary, and Sarah Adams Elementary School had 132 students participate in the contest. These students received a total of 95 first-place "superior" ratings and 13 events were given a second-place "excellent" rating. Twenty-six students received "perfect" scores on their performance.

Middle School South students receiving perfect scores include:

• Sixth grade: Ethan Buti, Nick Loychik.

• Seventh grade: Jack Frommelt, Nathan Kim, Jessica Kroczak, Annie Li, Kirsten Mazurkiewicz, Teah Mirabelli, Olivia Reiff, Alec Rosenbaum, Macy Vander Pas, Bartosz Wielgos, Kaitlyn Yau.

• Eighth grade: Andrea Baurele, Scott Brindise, Gabby Dudek, Antonio Escano, Nathan Holbrook, Allison Huynh Heather Huynh, Delaney Katz, Will Madsen, Kaiden Mortimer, Tyler Papierniak, Tyler Sarvady, Matt Schwartz.

Eleven band students from Middle School North earned "perfect" scored events, 63 earned first-place ("superior") ratings, and 21 earned second-place ("excellent") ratings.

The orchestra students came home with seven students achieving "perfect" scored events, 63 earned first-place ratings and 18 earned second-place ratings. Three chorus students earned "perfect" scores, 23 received first-place ratings and seven earned second-place ratings.

Middle School North students receiving perfect scores include:

• From MSN Band: Mitch Bader, Ethan Ecklund, Nolan Foreman, Payton Gagliardi (2), Kyle Grenier, Nick Hervatin, Eddie Mihok, Chad Oliver, Andrew Pytlak, DJ Young.

• From MSN Orchestra: Chloe Fletcher, William Gilbert, Brennan Groble, Suzanne Maniak, Andrew Orals, Prithu Patel, Josh Pollard.

• From MSN Chorus: Taylor Buergey, Elizabeth Crutchfield, Meggie Fewkes.
