Crash on Rt. 47 in Huntley sends two to hospital
A crash involving a sport utility vehicle and a semitrailer sent two people to area hospitals Wednesday and shut down Route 47 in Huntley for about five hours, authorities said.
A 2001 semitrailer heading south about 10:20 a.m. on Route 47 broadsided a 2008 Ford Expedition heading east on Kreutzer Road, Deputy Police Chief Michael Klunk said.
The intersection is controlled by a four-way stoplight, and police are trying to determine which driver had the right of way.
A 40-year-old Marengo woman driving the SUV sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Klunk said. A 44-year-old Texas man driving the semitrailer was taken by ambulance to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin and was expected to be released later Wednesday, Klunk said.
The SUV sustained damage on the driver's side while the semitrailer had front-end damage, Klunk said.
Huntley police were assisted by the Hampshire and Elgin police departments and state police. The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is also assisting.
