Hanover Park recognizes WWII veteran

Hanover Park has honored a veteran who served overseas in World War II.

Timoteo "Tim" Vasquez will also be recognized in the village's Veteran's Memorial, where officials will install a brick bearing his name.

Dozens of family members turned up for a recent village board meeting saluting Vasquez's service. He was a Marine, stationed in the southern Solomon Islands from 1942 to 1945.

Trained as an aircraft mechanic, Vasquez maintained a F4-F Wildcat Fighter during the Pacific theater.

After the war, he settled in the Hanover Park area and spent nearly 30 years working for the Sara Lee Corp.

Vasquez, waring a hat with the Marines insignia, beamed as state Rep. Fred Crespo read an Illinois House resolution praising his service.

"We're so lucky in Hanover Park to have you as a resident," the Hoffman Estates Democrat said. "People like you make our community what we are."
