Authorities: Missouri woman surrenders in Naperville dog theft

A 50-year-old Missouri woman has turned herself in to police after stealing a puppy from a Naperville pet store last November, authorities said.

Shelly R. Hess, of Chesterfield, Mo., surrendered to Naperville authorities Wednesday on a felony retail theft charge, police Sgt. Bill Davis said.

She was released after posting the required 10 percent of her $30,000 bond.

Hess is accused of stealing a 2-month-old puppy on Nov. 7 from the Petland store on the 700 block of South Route 59, authorities said.

Hess also is charged with similar crimes in Bolingbrook and Missouri.

The dogs in all those cases were returned to the stores days after they were taken.

Hess is scheduled to appear in DuPage County court on March 31.
