District 214 students excel at state Regional Art Exhibition

Township High School District 214 students were named winners in the first Illinois High School Regional Art Exhibition. The event was held at the Zhou Brothers Art Center in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood and included 325 artworks from more than 65 high schools in the Northeast region of Illinois.

Wheeling High School senior Kayla Wiseman received a Gold award in graphic design for her comic book design and a Utrecht Art Supply gift certificate.

John Hersey High School senior Sean O'Connor was presented with a Bronze award in photography for a black-and-white darkroom print and a gift certificate from both Freestyle Photographic and Utrecht Art Supply. He also received scholarship opportunities from Kendall College of Art and Illinois Wesleyan.

Prospect High School senior Jordan Ramon captured a Silver award in 3-D Art for a metal pendant and a Utrecht Art Supply gift certificate. Elk Grove High School junior Andre Marin was awarded a scholarship to the School of the Art Institute for its Early College Program, and Rolling Meadows High School junior Gabrielle Lockwood was awarded a summer scholarship to The Illinois Institute of Art in Schaumburg.

The Zhou Brothers, Chinese contemporary artists, greeted students, parents, and teachers and welcomed them to the center. Several working artists also welcomed them into their art studios during the exhibition.
