Woman gets 6 years for stealing drugs from suburban stores
A Chicago woman whose convictions for retail theft and drug possession date back to 1994 pleaded guilty to stealing $3,600 worth of medication from pharmacies in Arlington Heights and South Barrington.
Sharonda Booth, 47, pleaded guilty to continuing a financial crimes enterprise, court records show. In exchange for her guilty plea, she was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to pay $689 in fines, court records show. Booth's background made her eligible for an extended sentence. She received credit for 157 days in custody.
Authorities say Booth and co-defendant James Harris, 42, stole over-the-counter medication from several Walgreens and CVS stores for the purpose of reselling them.
Harris, who prosecutors said was sentenced to 25 years in prison for murder in 1993, was also sentenced to prison for possession of a controlled substance in 2007 and for possession of a stolen motor vehicle in 2008. He next appears in court March 19.
