Huntley Rotary Club sponsors new literacy project

At its meeting Feb. 11, the Huntley Rotary Club announced the sponsorship of Huntley Area Public Library's "TumbleBooks," an educational tool for children learning to read.

The club reviewed several options as a literacy project in the community, and felt this could reach the greatest number of children developing literacy skills. This tool is available free to anyone in the community with a Huntley library card.

The Huntley Rotary Club has contributed to a community literacy project for many years, but this is the first year with a digital product for students.

"With technology, it became necessary to shift our efforts to a more accessible project," stated Bill Jorgensen, club president. "Where before our project focused on third-grade students in District 158, now we can offer this educational tool to students from preschool through high school."

TumbleBooks offers books, educational games and short videos, and read-along text to beginning and reluctant readers of all ages. Materials are not downloaded but read online, offering access to books to more people at the same time.
