"This is the first time we have had a school jazz band outside the northwest suburbs performing with us at Durty Nellie's," commented Roy Vombrack, Jazz Consortium bandleader/saxophonist. "We're looking forward to having a band from a school with such a storied history opening for us."

Well into its third full year of residency at Durty Nellie's, the 17-piece Jazz Consortium Big Band first came together in the mid-1970's, consisting of former and current University of Illinois, Northern Illinois and Northwestern University musicians with a love of Big Band music. With Durty Nellie's as its home base, the group went on to play clubs, concerts and events throughout the Chicago area before disbanding in the early 1980's, most of the members going on to full-time music careers. The band reunited four years ago, and has since been performing second Sundays monthly at Durty Nellie's in Palatine, as well as playing various concerts and clubs in the area.
