Vernon Area Library offers programs

The Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire is offering a slew of free programs in March. All programs are free and open to the public unless otherwise indicated.

Register for programs online at calendar.vapld.info or in person at the library at 300 Olde Half Day Road.

You can also register for adult programs by calling (224) 543-1485 or for youth and teen programs by calling (224) 543-1486.

Here are some of the upcoming activities:

• French Stories and Mardi Gras Masks: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1. Listen to members of the Stevenson High School French Honor Society read the beautiful story of Cinderella in French, then create your own masquerade mask in honor of Mardi Gras. For grades K-2. Registration required.

• Overviewof Windows 8: 1-3 p.m. Monday, March 3. Learn the ins and outs of the new Windows 8, including the desktop screen, start screen, charms bar, and personalizing your Windows 8 experience. Registration required.

• One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish; a Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration: 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, March 3. Listen to some of your favorite Dr. Seuss books, then join art teacher Sheri Lucterhand for a fun, fish-filled art project and goldfish snack. For grades K-2. Registration required.

• Giggles & Wiggles: 10-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 5. Music and movement are the center of this storytime. Help your child connect sounds, language, and fun. For ages 15 to 24 months with a caregiver. Registration not required.
